Out and about in Leicester - October 2019

These photos were taken in Leicester city centre in October 2019.

A mosaic made of Lego installed in the Marks and Spencers in Leicester to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landings. A number of themes run through this installation: the mosaic draws from Roman Leicester, but has been given a modern flavour in being made of Lego, while Leicester has for years been associated with aerospace in the United Kingdom, notably being home to the National Space Centre.

Ritland Street, seen from Charles Street.

St. George's Tower. This 82-metre-tall building was built in the 1960s and refurbished in the mid-2000s, when it took up its distinctive blue colour. It contains a hotel, student accommodation, a leisure centre and 250,000 square feet of office space.

Granby Street. We have one too!

The Everlast gym and Flannels store on Halford Street. These premises were formerly a BHS store.

Belgrave Gate, looking towards Belgrave Road. On the right is the Haymarket Bus Station, built in 2016, while on the left, just out of the line of sight, is where Savoy Street would be built. Savoy Street, linking Belgrave Gate to Mansfield Street, was completed last year.
