The isolated street in the heart of Nottingham

I used to wonder whether there was a street that was completely isolated from the rest of the road network. Waiting for a bus in Nottingham on the last day of August this year, I stumbled across Newcastle Street.

This street contains a road that is visibly lower than its surroundings and even has road markings, but it is: 1) a dead end; and 2) the lowered surface is completely separated from the street which it comes out of - Parliament Street - by the pavement, with no dropped kerb whatsoever.

You could say that this street, which is less than thirty metres long, is meaningless. In the past it apparently was partly fenced off. Maybe one of these days someone will buy the street and build a shop in between the neighbouring buildings.
