The latest of Loughborough's streets on Google Street View

This time around, it's not about my photographs but rather about Google's. You see, I lately discovered much new imagery had been taken this month around Loughborough, including on new housing estates where some streets haven't had any imagery taken since they were built. So today, we'll take a trip around Loughborough with the aid of Google! We'll start with a very recent street, Ploughlands (below). William Davis Homes built this small street off the former road to Woodthorpe, and is sandwiched between it, the Great Central Railway and Leicester Road/Loughborough Road. I visited this estate this April (see here!) This small estate of 30 homes greets visitors with a line of houses arcing around a large green space with a large pond in the middle of it. A single road passes through the arc and heading towards the corner of the development between the railway and the main road. Across the railway is the Trinity Gardens estate, inside which are the swanky crescent ho

The isolated street in the heart of Nottingham

Image
I used to wonder whether there was a street that was completely isolated from the rest of the road network. Waiting for a bus in Nottingham on the last day of August this year, I stumbled across Newcastle Street. This street contains a road that is visibly lower than its surroundings and even has road markings, but it is: 1) a dead end; and 2) the lowered surface is completely separated from the street which it comes out of - Parliament Street - by the pavement, with no dropped kerb whatsoever. You could say that this street, which is less than thirty metres long, is meaningless. In the past it apparently was partly fenced off. Maybe one of these days someone will buy the street and build a shop in between the neighbouring buildings.

Timelapse of the construction of new houses

This week, I'm doing something rather different. I present to you my timelapse of the construction of the new houses on Knightthorpe Road, from my Youtube channel. Enjoy!

R. I. P. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II - 1926-2022

It is with sadness that I have learned that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has passed away today. Her Majesty was almost certainly the greatest ruler of the United Kingdom ever, and her departure is a very great loss to us all. My thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family and the Great British nation. May God comfort us during this time of grief.

Towering student flats in Coventry

Image
Coventry is not too dissimilar from Loughborough in that it also has a lot of new student developments. Like Loughborough, Coventry is a university city, so all those students need somewhere to live while they study. So here are some photos of some of Coventry's student residences, along with some vital statistics. All the photos were taken this June unless otherwise stated. 1. Name: Arundel House/Whitefriars Student Accommodation Completed: September 2020 Architects: O'Connell East Rooms: 778 Floors: 13-17 First up is Arundel House, a favourite of mine, located at the end of Whitefriars Lane next to the Ringway Whitefriars. It is also known as the Whitefriars Student Accommodation, named after a friary whose remains can be seen on the other side of the Ringway Whitefriars, which the friary also gave its name to. It was built on land previously occupied by the Coventry Boys and Girls Club, which moved into new facilities inside the development in 2019. As seen from Cox Street.
