Stapleford Memorial Park

Stapleford Memorial Park is a park on the Ashby Road estates. It is accessed from the trail along the former Charnwood Forest Railway, from Grassholme Drive and from Pitsford Drive, and is bounded by the former railway, the Shortcliff Brook and the housing estates.

The park was opened in 1976 and was named after Charnwood's parks superintendent Tommy Stapleford, who passed away that year; a tree with a plaque on the hilltop  commemorates the event.

The park has some challenging terrain; a steep hill fills much of the park, the hilltop being closer to the Grassholme Drive entrance. It is difficult to communicate just how steep the hill is through the selection of photographs I have here! There was once a playground at the bottom of the hill, but it was removed in the mid-2010s.

These photos were taken in September 2020.
