Market Harborough's Old Grammar School and more

Image
In August 2015 I visited Market Harborough, and came across a very interesting building. This is The Old Grammar School, located in Church Square between High Street and Adam and Eve Street. The plaque below explains the significance of this building. The Bible verses are a nice touch! As a bonus, here are some photos of supermarkets  taken in Oadby from the number X3 bus also on that day: The Asda in northern Oadby, off Leicester Road. The Waitrose store off Harborough Road. This store was opened in October 2010 but closed after just nine years, in November 2019, and was turned into a Lidl.

Around the villages

I took these pictures when I went on a long cycle ride in mid-April 2021, passing through Hathern, Zouch, Normanton-on-Soar and Stanford-on-Soar before returning to Loughborough. Loughborough Road, Hathern, looking north. The Shepshed Road crossroads, looking down Loughborough Road towards Loughborough. Looking up Shepshed Road. Fields to the north of Main Street, near Zouch. Main Street, Zouch, looking west. The natural channel of the River Soar is on the left. Main Street, looking east towards Zouch. Main Street, at the eastern end of Zouch, looking at the canalised section of the River Soar. Zouch seems to be a village of islands - on Google Maps I counted six! Main Street, looking west. The A6006, just east of Zouch, looking east. The village of Sutton Bonington is visible from here. Panning to the right, we see Moor Lane, which leads into the village of Normanton-on-Soar. When buses used to pass through the town centre

Image
How many of you remember when vehicles used to travel freely through the town centre? It now seems like ever so long ago that the town centre was pedestrianised. April 2014. Traffic still flows freely through the Market Place while women stop to chat. The bus is Paul S. Winson's 118 (X663 WCH). About a month later, Arriva Midlands' 4766 (FJ06 ZSP) passes through Swan Street on its way to Leicester.

All around Quorn

Image
Before you get to Mountsorrel ( photos of which I uploaded last Saturday ) from Loughborough, you need to pass through Quorn... New homes are being built in this field off Loughborough Road. Loughborough Road, looking towards One Ash Roundabout. The Woodhouse Road Crossroads, looking down Loughborough Road towards Quorn. Panning to the right, we see the opening of Woodhouse Road. At the crossroads, looking towards Loughborough. The centre of Quorn was rather busy due to some arts and crafts thing going on in the village centre, and in addition to that, my bicycle's chain slipped for the second (and fortunately, last) time on that journey. The next place I stopped was at Leicester Road, at the Wood Lane mini-roundabout; this view looks down Leicester Road towards Mountsorrel. Wood Lane. Leicester Road, looking back towards the centre of Quorn. After I went to Mountsorrel, I returned, diverting via Meeting Street and Chaveney Road. Here at the junction of Chaveney Road and Woodhouse
