Day out in town - July 2020

Baxter Gate. The brightly coloured building on the left has recently been repainted, as this photograph shows. It is a copy of an earlier building that stood in the Market Place prior to road widening in the early 1930s.

This year, Charnwood Borough Council replaced its fleet of rubbish trucks. Unlike the previous generation, they do not have colour-coded cabs, (previously they were green for recycling, brown for garden waste, and white for household waste) and they all have four axles, whereas previously only garden waste and some white-cabbed lorries had eight wheels and the others had six wheels. This is of the most recent type of Dennis rubbish lorry, with others having been in the fleet before and sometimes when the council ran a fleet mainly consisting of Mercedes-Benz Econics.

Student accommodation at Harry French on Ashby Road.

New student flats on Ashby Road. Whilst I do appreciate the modern looks personally, it doesn't really visually sympathise with the surrounding buildings - including the flats built just behind it prior to construction of this building. Also at fault is that the builders were not wearing hard hats...
