Scenes in Shepshed - October 2022

Some photos of Shepshed taken last October.

Forest Street at its junction with Kirkhill (left), Fairway Road (centre) and Leicester Road (to the right, outside the frame), as seen from a passing bus.

Kirkhill, looking east uphill.

The Millennium Clock, Bull Ring.

Hall Croft as seen from the Co-op store.

Field Street as seen from the Bull Ring.

Charnwood Road Baptist Church.

Shepshed Fire Station. This building also formerly contained the police station, which was closed some years ago.

Charnwood Road, looking toward the Bull Ring from adjacent to the fire station.

Looking the other way up Charnwood Road; on the left is the Asda branch in Shepshed.

The Shepshed Asda.

Looking toward the Bull Ring from the opposite side of the road.

The Bull Ring.

Queen Street. Shepshed's terrain seems to be peculiarly hilly compared to Loughborough (although there is a fairly large hill close to my own house.)

The alarmingly narrow Church Side.

St. Botolph's Church, built in the 11th century and the westernmost parish church with this name.

If you thought Queen Street was steep, then how about Church Street?

Shepshed Market Place, seen from the southern end. Unlike Loughborough's Market Place, which was pedestrianised before I can remember, Shepshed's is still mostly a car park, although that could change in the next few years. In the background is Brook Street.

Cheapside (left), looking toward Market Place and Brook Street.

Cheapside, looking north.

Brook Street, looking north from Cheapside. I don't really remember seeing any brooks in Shepshed other than one tiny one on Lambert Avenue adjacent to Glenmore Park. I suppose any brooks within Shepshed must be even more well hidden than the Wood Brook in Loughborough town centre!

Cheapside (left) and Brook Street (right).

Cheapside. The shop closest to the left is probably quite peculiar: it sells guns! There also used to be a model railway shop on Hall Croft (F & S Kirk) that I fancied visiting someday, but it seems to have closed down.

The bottom end of Church Street; Hall Croft is on the right.

Hall Croft, looking south.

Newer shops on Hall Croft, built around 2018 along with the houses on Britannia Street behind them.
