New Londis at Devonshire Square

A new branch of Londis opened recently on Devonshire Square, in premises formerly occupied by Lloyd's Bank, then the ill-fated Morrison's M Local/My Local convenience store. Morrison's ventured into the world of convenience stores with Morrison's M Local in 2011, but unfortunately, the new chain struggled to make a profit. The Loughborough branch of Morrisons M Local opened in July 2014. Mike Greene, a British entrepreneur and convenience shop veteran who was critical of how Morrisons had run the chain, boasted of his ability to turn the struggling chain around, and bragged that the chain would be profitable in its first year. He founded My Local in September 2015 and proceeded to buy the Morrisons M Local stores. However, the chain collapsed in July next year, and the vacant space on Devonshire Square was left vacant for four years.

However, some new progress has been made; the shop just became a new branch of Londis!

In late August this year, a banner appeared on the former My Local convenience store.

Work in progress, Oct 2020.

This is just one of many ways Loughborough has been changing this year.
